Special Forces in Freedom of Ur.

Their size. Elite units are a lot smaller numberswise than other battlefield units. Ranging from 1 (dragons, undead colossi) to 12 members (the Gnomish Space Marines the dark prince and his entourage), with the 2 Adventurer Fellowships somewhere in the middle. They can wipe the floor with units much larger than themselves, because they are high level characters in a D&D like world.

Why there are no Player Character battle field counters. Most PCs in Freedom of Ur are essentially non-combatants. They are politicians, or laboratory wizards, not superheroes. The ones that are superheroes are all part of an elite unit. If their unit enters the field, they are where their unit is. If their unit is destroyed they die and the player receives a non-combatant character as their new PC next turn.
